2025 Projects

We are excited to share that SAFAD (Silsoe Aid for Appropriate Development) is opening applications for its 2025 volunteer placements on the 1st of June.

This year, we are offering 5 FULLY FUNDED volunteer placements across Africa. We will cover the visa, flight, accommodation, food, transport and insurance costs. Each project is summarised below.
We also warmly welcome donations to support SAFAD, just contact us at fundraising.safad@cranfield.ac.uk to inquire. All contributions will directly support the volunteers.

If you would like to know more about the projects, please email us at info.safad@cranfield.ac.uk. If you’re a Cranfield student or alumnus and would like to apply, keep an eye out for your canvas page, your careers emails, and alumni communications to find the online application form: applications open the 1st of June, and will close on the 23rd. Interviews will take place on Thursday 3rd July.

Confidence Academy International School: Lesotho

Volunteers will support the development of a new school in a rural village, working in classrooms and assisting with extracurricular programmes and communications. The role offers close engagement with learners and the chance to leave a long-lasting impact on the region’s education.

Nakalama Skilling Centre : Uganda

This placement supports women in rural Uganda through financial literacy and small enterprise development. Volunteers will train savings groups, help manage group records, and take part in community outreach.

Nangonde Youths, Widows and Elderly Women’s Association : Uganda

Volunteers will work with local women’s groups to improve financial resilience, record-keeping, and group management. The placement includes community engagement, capacity building, and mentorship.

Home for Youth Development Organisation: Ghana

Volunteers will join HYDO in Ghana assessing the effects of polluted water and their potential treatments, as well as assisting in constructing boreholes. The placement would best fit a candidate with a water MSc, who is also excited to engage with the community.

Seeds of Hope International Partnerships (SoHIP): Zambia

Volunteers will join a leading WASH organisation to strengthen data collection and improve internal and external communications. The role involves supporting digital systems, engaging with health promoters, and improving community outreach.
